Description
The split-seconds chronograph with perpetual calendar occupies a category entirely its own within haute horlogerie — a combination so mechanically demanding that only a handful of manufacturers worldwide produce it in-house, and among those, fewer still do so in a manually wound caliber. Patek Philippe’s CHR 29-535 PS Q, with its two column wheels, horizontal clutch, and 496 parts, has been the benchmark for this complication since its introduction; the 5204G-010 brings it to white gold for the first time alongside a navy blue sunburst dial whose red split-seconds and 30-minute counter hands make the split function’s purpose immediately legible to any observer — a design decision that acknowledges the complication’s athletic origins in precision timing without compromising the watch’s formal authority. The dual strap set supplied with each example — fabric and alligator, both with red stitching — extends that versatility further.
The 40mm fully polished white gold case carries interchangeable solid and sapphire crystal case backs. The sunburst navy blue dial presents white gold applied faceted “obus” hour markers, white gold faceted dauphine hands with luminescence, and a printed white tachymeter scale. Red split-seconds and 30-minute counter hands provide chromatic contrast; a day/month double aperture at twelve, moon phases and date hand at six, and small seconds at nine complete the perpetual calendar and chronograph display. Both navy blue fabric and dark blue alligator straps with red stitching and white gold triple-blade fold-over clasp are included.
