François-Paul Journe pays tribute to research conducted on resonance by great 18th century watchmakers with presentation of first wristwatch resonance chronometer representing only wristwatch in world utilizing physical natural resonance phenomenon without any mechanical transmission previously known as double pendulum or double balance. Affectionately nicknamed “Parking Meter” by collectors for its distinctive digital 24-hour display reminiscent of parking meter counters, this iconic timekeeper distinctively signs horological research of master watchmaker François-Paul Journe on precision representing one of most audacious challenges in field of mechanical watchmaking where this mechanism with its two balances beating in perfect synchronization according to principle of resonance revolutionizes established standards offering precision never before equaled in mechanical wristwatch remaining nearly 20 years after its creation most precise mechanical watch in contemporary watchmaking.
The 40mm platinum case measures 9.1mm overall height featuring polished and brushed surfaces, screwed caseback with exhibition sapphire crystal revealing movement finishing, two-position winding crown at 12 o’clock for manual winding requiring 27 turns of crown with time adjustment for left dial by winding crown on position 2 in one direction and in opposite direction for right dial, reset-to-zero button for seconds at 4 o’clock pulling button to reset both seconds to zero. Blackened gold dial features whitened guilloché silver double display with digital 24-hour indicator at left dial at 9 o’clock precisely defining daytime hours from nighttime hours imbued with immense horological poetry, analog 12-hour display at right dial at 3 o’clock in guilloché silver indicating local time where two dials can also display same time zone, two small seconds at 6 o’clock position on each sub-dial, power reserve indicator at 11 o’clock, blued steel hands, rhodium-plated steel hands. Hand-wound manual-winding Caliber 1499.3 crafted entirely in 18k rose gold features two independent gear trains, two independent linear escapements with 15 teeth, two independent balances with four inertia weights each with inertial adjustment, two flat micro-flamed Anachron balance springs, two mobile stud carriers, free-sprung without regulator, two Virolage laser Nivatronic, two pinned GE studs, two-position winding stem, frequency of 21,600 alternations per hour, power reserve of 40 hours plus or minus 2 hours, high-grade finishing with baseplate partly circular grained, polished screw heads with chamfered slots and tour, pegs with polished rounded ends.
