Description
Part of Black Label Collection representing F.P.Journe’s most exclusive offering created specifically for existing F.P.Journe watch owners only, available exclusively through F.P.Journe boutiques and espaces worldwide. Platinum case paired with distinguished lacquered black dial personalizing elegance beyond standard offerings. Octa Automatique Réserve features new Calibre 1300.3 created through constant search for functionality representing François-Paul Journe’s innovative approach where watchmaker constantly improves creations. New caliber offers automatic winding system in adequacy with less mobile users developed from observation that friend’s Octa never completely wound because working on computer meant right hand didn’t move enough. Watchmaker turned problem around creating new rotor winding in only one direction with ball bearing system contrary to first Octa caliber where ceramic balls allow rotor to move in one direction and block in other. When user immobile, rotor returns to original position ensuring every infinitesimal movement maximally exploited for optimized winding. François-Paul Journe took advantage of new caliber creation to offer model with central hands responding to clients indicating difficulty reading time on classical Octa dial, designing dial inspired by Chronomètre Souverain which won Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix 2005 in men’s watch category.
The 40mm platinum case (also available in 38mm) measures 10.6mm overall height featuring polished and brushed surfaces, screwed caseback with exhibition sapphire crystal revealing movement finishing, three-position crown. Blackened guilloché silver dial features center hours and minutes, small seconds at 4:30, large date display, power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock with 120-hour scale, blued steel hands. Automatic-winding Caliber 1300.3 crafted entirely in 18k rose gold features large-capacity mainspring barrel, meter-long mainspring supplying average 850 grams of torque limiting balance amplitude loss to 25 percent over five-day period ensuring watch continues running another day or two beyond 120 hours though amplitude loss no longer guarantees precision timekeeping after that point, full-size free-sprung chronometer balance measuring 10.1mm diameter giving greater inertia and stability versus watches with long power reserves historically handicapped by small balances susceptible to shocks and disturbances, balance adjusted by five turning weights vibrating at steady 21,600 times per hour, balance with four adjustable inertia weights, flat Anachron micro-flamed balance spring, mobile stud holder, Nivatronic laser-soldered to collet, pinned GE stud, in-line lever escapement with 15-tooth wheel, three-position crown with uni-directional automatic winding, date setting by turning crown in opposite ways in position 2, time setting with crown in position 3, slipping mainspring, off-center winding rotor in 22k gold with uni-directional winding using ceramic ball bearing system providing optimized winding, 120-hour power reserve delivering chronometric precision fully wound, circular stripes on bridges, baseplate partly circular grained, polished screw heads with chamfered slots, pegs with polished rounded ends, steelwork with polished chamfers and straight graining. Black alligator leather strap with platinum deployant buckle.
